ILLINOIS AWARD Reasons to Join | Accomplishments | Governance
ISPE's highest award given to an individual. Presented to an engineer who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare, and/or humankind. Must be a PE. Will be considered for nomination to NSPE for the NSPE Award. Criteria/Method of Selection Candidates shall be licensed engineers whose civic, professional, or technical contributions have included outstanding service to the engineering profession, to the public welfare, and/or to humankind and/or whose special contributions to ISPE have been in areas of administration, communications, professional development, public relations, legislative affairs, liaison society development, or other areas promoting the social, economic, and professional interests of engineers. Officers and directors of ISPE and NSPE are ineligible. Nominations may be submitted by any ISPE member or chapter, and the submission must be approved by the candidate's chapter. The ISPE winner will be considered for nomination to NSPE for the NSPE Award. NSPE does not limit a state society to the approval of a single candidate. The ISPE Honors and Awards Committee makes the selection of the winner, weighing the following particulars:
Criteria Used in Judging Memberships in both technical and non-technical organizations 10 points Service to the profession 20 points Service to his/her community and for the benefit of humankind 10 points Honors or awards bestowed (including national awards) 20 points National technical, professional, or non-professional offices held 10 points Regional, national or international activities of unique quality 15 points Special national or international advisory assignments 15 points Total points 100 points
ISPE Nomination Format: Nominations must be submitted according to the details outlined below. The data should be presented with a Cover Sheet and three parts: Executive Summary, Supporting Materials, Personal Information and Media Coverage. Cover Sheet (containing the following):
PART I: Executive Summary Part I should consist of an executive summary of approximately 500 words. It should be written to give a balanced, concise picture of the candidate as an engineer, a contributor to the profession, a factor in industry, education, or engineering research and development, and as a servant to humankind. State and National importance should be highlighted. PART II: Supporting Material Part II should contain the detailed data that support every key item in the executive summary. This section of the biography should cover, but need not be limited to, the following items:
The above items are to be included in the biography as they apply, and should provide a clear portrait of the candidate as an important technical person interacting with society and the environment. While careful consideration should be given to the candidate's local activities, due to the nature of this award, background items of national and international significance, such as the following, should receive special attention:
PART III: Personal Information and Media Coverage Please include the candidate's mailing address and list two or more local newspapers or other publications with addresses for publicity purposes. Previous Recipients of the Illinois Award
