ISPE ENGINEERING EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARD Reasons to Join | Accomplishments | Governance
This award recognizes engineering faculty who have demonstrated the ability to link engineering education with professional practice. The recipients must be licensed, ISPE members, and have a tenure-track faculty appointment in an ABET-EAC accredited engineering program. This award recognizes mid-career individuals who are 45 years or younger in age at the deadline for submission of the award. Candidates may be nominated by any ISPE chapter or the ISPE Executive Committee and the nominations will be considered for nomination to NSPE. Criteria/Method of Selection Because the ISPE award winner may be forwarded for the national award, the ISPE Award criteria follow that used for selection of the NSPE Engineering Education Excellence Award. Winners of the ISPE award may be forwarded to NSPE for the national award which was established by the Sustaining Universities Program (SUP) of the Professional Engineers in Education (PEE) Practice Division of the National Society of Professional Engineers.. The ISPE award recognizes ISPE member engineering faculty who have demonstrated the ability to link engineering education with professional practice. The recipients must be licensed and have a tenure-track faculty appointment in an ABET-EAC accredited engineering program. This award recognizes mid-career individuals who are 45 years or younger in age at the deadline for submission of the award. The EAC Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET) has implemented new criteria and processes for accreditation of engineering education known as EC-2000. The programs that receive accreditation under EC-2000 must demonstrate they have better prepared graduates to become practicing engineers. The PEE/SUP Engineering Education Excellence Award has been developed to be supportive of EC-2000 and will recognize faculty members who are working to introduce students to professional practice. At this time, a minority of engineering educators are licensed. PEE believes that engineering educators should possess the professional designation. To date, a handful of states have enacted legislation to require engineering faculty to become licensed. By instituting this award program, PEE affirms support of this requirement and will continue to promote and recognize professional licensure among engineering educators. The ISPE Honors and Awards Committee will accept only the nomination form used for the NSPE Award. The form can be found on the NSPE web site at http://www.nspe.org/resources/documents/pehe/2008_Nomination_Form_web.doc. Previous Recipients of the ISPE Engineering Education Excellence Award
